Title

Not sure if I prayed Salah in the state of Janabah. Do I have to repeat my Salah?

Question

I have made this to ask you about my Salah. When I was 13, I sadly started masturbating for quite a few years before stopping. My doubt though is that I didn't know I had to do ghusl afterwards until I was about 15 years old and 6 months. So is my Salah valid or do I make qada?

In addition I am unsure when I hit puberty as I didn't grow armpit hair during this time but still shaved my pubic hair, however I don't know when I started to cut it. Also, j don't think I had a wet dream as well during this time?

So I am asking if I need to make qada even though I didn't know and if so from when.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

There are two issues in the query:

1.     The age at which you became mature

2.     The Salah you performed in the state of Janabah (ritual impurity)

In principle, a child becomes mature (Baaligh) either by experiencing Inzaal (seminal discharge) Or by turning 15 in lunar years.[1]

Generally, Inzaal occurs in the form of a wet dream (Ihtilaam). However, if the child experiences seminal discharge in the absence of a wet dream, then too he will be considered Baaligh.

Accordingly, if you experienced seminal discharge at the age of 13, you became Baligh and Salah became Fardh upon you.

You state you performed many Salah whilst in the state of Janabah (ritual impurity). Salah is not valid if performed in the state of Janabah (ritual impurity).

Therefore, you will have to repeat the Salah which you performed in the state of impurity. You should make an honest calculation of the Salah you have performed whilst in the state of Janabah and perform Qadha accordingly.[2]

As a matter of precaution, an overestimation should be made when calculating the Salah performed in the state of Janabah.

Note: You should only make Qadha of the Fardh Salah and Witr Salah. There is no Qadha for the sunnah and nafl Salah.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
