Title

May I recite a sajdah āyah in inaudible prayers?

Question

Asalamz. Can you recite a sajdah ayat in Asr prayers? I did it by mistake when I was leading Asr. Please clarify.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

It is makrūh (disliked) to recite a sajdah āyah in inaudible prayers like alāh al-uhr and alāh al-ʿAsr, to avoid confusing the congregation.[i]
