Title

Is it permissible to use Vodacom Talking Points to purchase additional airtime etc.?

Question

As Salaamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakaatuhu

Most Respected Mufti Saheb

Is it permissible to use Vodacom Talking Points to purchase additional airtime etc.

Jazaakumullahu Khairan

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

According to the Vodacom website, “Talking Points is a simple rewards programme for our Prepaid customers.

You earn points every time you recharge with R10 or more. Earn 1 point for every R10 you spend.

You can then redeem your points for great rewards. Like free cellphones, tablets, data and SMS bundles.”[i]

For this reason, the talking points will be regarded as a gift from Vodacom. Hence, it will be permissible to use the talking points to purchase additional airtime.
