Assalamualaikum
Respected Mufti saheb
My query is whether it is permissible to watch videos of Islamic lectures / qiraats?

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
Imam Muslim has narrated the statement of Muhammad ibn Sirin:
إن هذا العلم دين فانظروا عمن تأخذون دينكم
“Verily, this knowledge is a deen (way of life). So, be careful of whom you take your deen from.”
There are many ways of gaining Islamic knowledge. The best and safest approach is by learning directly under the guidance of a learned and qualified scholar. This has been the ongoing practice from the time of the prophet to this day and age.
It is understood that this may not be practically possible in certain situations. However, the internet is a dangerous place and a source of uncertainty. While there may be a number of rightly guided scholars on the internet, there are many self-proclaimed scholars who lack the skills and information required to lead people in the right direction. Unfortunately, because of such seminars, many people have been led astray or forced into extremism.
Furthermore, there are deviated organizations and sects who promote their own agendas. You should therefore be extremely careful about who and what you are listening to on the internet.
It is important for one to link themselves with their local scholars whom they can approach for advice and guidance on issues.
The permissibility of digital photography and videos is a highly contested issue amongst contemporary Ulama. Whilst many Ulama permit this, many others consider it to be the same as typical photography, hence deeming it impermissible. It is advisable to exercise precaution and abstain from watching such videos. Instead, you may listen to audio recordings of the Bayans and Qiraat.[1]
