Title

Is buffing your nails haraam?

Question

Salaam,

Is buffing your nails haraam?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Nail buffing is the act of polishing the nail using buffers of successively finer grit in order to make nails look more consistent and shiny.

It is permissible to buff one’s nails as long as one does not apply paste after buffing the nails, which would prevent water from seeping through to the nails. [1]
