Title

Bloating and gas related issue

Question

I have this problem of gas which makes me very difficult to sustain wadu and prayer too, it mostly happens around 24 hours clock, i have read online that if it happens alot then perform wadu once and offer that particular prayer And my wadu wont break even if the air is released but some places i have read that if there is time for prayer and my gas problem might go away for while then i dont come in this category of madhur.. the thing is there might be times my mind will say yeah the gas issue is gone for a while but then again when i stand up to offer prayer the bloatiness suddenly comes back and all the wind release problem, this problem has made me difficult to offer prayers as iam incertain about that to do, internet is filled with mixed opinions... i am not urcertain that the short period of time when i dont feel gassy will remain same or not when praying as the gas problem appears suddenly

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

In principle, if a person’s gas (releasing of wind) issue was continuous for a complete Salaah time, not leaving enough time to perform wudhu and fardh Salaah then he will be regarded as a Ma’zur (excused). A Ma’zur performs wudhu for every Salaah time. His wudhu will remain intact for the complete Salaah time. The expiry of the Salaah time and any other impurity besides the gas will break his wudhu[i] [ii]

Wudhu will only invalidate if one is absolutely certain of it. A mere doubt does not invalidate the wudhu.[iii]

See the following hadith,

Translation: Abbad Radhi Allahu Anhu narrates that my uncle asked Allah's Messenger () about a person who imagined to have passed wind during the prayer. Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaih Wasallam said that one should not leave the Masjid out of a doubt of passing wind until one hears the sound thereof or gets the smell thereof. (Bukhari)[iv]

In the enquired situation, if you were certain about releasing of gas (wind) continuously and there wasn’t enough time to perform wudhu and fardh Salaah, then you will be categorized as a Ma’zur.

We also advise you to seek medical assistance in reducing or eliminating bloating and gasses problems.[v]
