Salaah performed without a valid ghusl


Assalamualaikum dear Mufti sab,

I had attained puberty around the age of 15. I started performing Salah around the age of 14. However I knew about the faraiz of Ghusul only by the age of 17. Should i perform Qada for the Salah performed without proper Ghusul (from age 15 to 17).

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

In principle, there are three requisites for an obligatory ghusl to be valid. [i]

1)    To rinse one’s mouth

2)    To pass water in the nostrils.

3)    To pour water over the entire body once.

You enquire about performing Salaah without a proper ghusl. What do you mean by not performing a proper ghusl?

Ghusl becomes obligatory when one has a wet dream, after emission of semen or after intercourse.

If you were in the need of an obligatory ghusl and you did not fulfil the requisites of an obligatory ghusl, but you made wudhu before performing the Salaah, that would suffice and your Salaah would be valid. Hence, there will be no need to make Qadha for those Salaah. [ii]
