Title: Writing Bismillah, saying Allahu Akbar 100 times

Question

Assalamu alaikum. Recently I came across an audio by a well known scholar in our country. He says that it is written by the ulama e haq that in the month of Muharram if a person writes bismillah 113 times on a clothe or on a paper and keeps it with him, then In Shaa Allah there will be blessings throughout the year. He also states that it is not a hadith but written by the ulama e haq. Further he quoted a hadees that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:”If a person recites Allahu Akbar 100 times then it will be equal to the reward of sacrificing 100 camels in masjid al haram.” I want to know whether the above hadees is saheeh or not. Also is there any ruling that the teachings of the scholars (i.e.which are not from the hadith) can be followed as far as there is no shirk involved in it? Jazak Allah Khair.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Dear Brother,

1) The prescription to write Bismillah 113 times in reference is like other suggested prescriptions that are based on tried and tested basis. One may follow a tried and tested prescription with the belief that the effect in anything is with the will and order of Allah Ta’ala. It is similar to following a prescription of a medical doctor.  Which is based on his medical knowledge and experience. When following such prescriptions, one should believe that the effect of the prescription is with the will of Allah Ta’ala.

2) Hereunder is the hadith you enquire about:

Translation: ‘Amr bin Shu’aib narrates from his father who narrates from his grandfather that Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said… “Whoever recites Allahu Akbar hundred times before sun rise and before sun set that will be more virtuous than freeing hundred slaves… Sunan Al-Kubra of An-Nasai [10588]

The reward stated in the hadith is freeing hundred slaves. We have not come across the virtue of sacrificing 100 camels in the haram upon reciting Allahu Akbar hundred times.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
