Delaying Witr Until After Midnight

Assalamu Alikum,

I would like to know if delaying the witr prayer until after the midnight is makruh according to the hanafi school.

JazakumAllah Khair

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

It is mustahab for one who is used to waking up for tahajjud to delay the witr until the last portion of the night.[i] If one is unsure whether he will be able to wake up and perform witr at that time, he should perform witr before sleeping.

And Allah Ta‘ālā Knows Best.

Mufti Ebrahim Desai.
