Title: How do I make an intention for a qadha fast?

Question

when a person does qadha for the fast of ramadhan, it says that you have to make an intention in the night before "subhe-saadiq" 

so in the intention, do you say, I'm making qadha today or you say tomorrow? because the intention is for a qadha that will start after subhe-saadiq, so after subhe-saadiq, is it still today or counted as tomorrow?

Also if you have several missed ramadhan, and you know the dates, can you still makea general intention without specifying the dates like "I'm making qadha for the first fard roza which I missed in my life, and you continue to make this same inention for each qadha roza, is this still valid?

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, The Most Merciful.

As-salaamu `alaykum wa-ramatullahi wa-barakatuh.

  1. When a person intends keeping qadhaa fast for Ramadhaan, he has to make an intention in the night before subah saadiq. The general intention that you will be fasting the following day is sufficient. There is no need to specify today or tomorrow.
  2. One may specify the dates or state making qadha for the first fast.[1]

قضاء رمضان وذلك لأن الصوم بدل عن الدم الواجب فيهما وهو دم شكر للتوفيق لإداء النسكين قوله: "ووجد" أي الشرط قوله: "أو مطلق" أي عن التعليق قوله: "لأنها ليس لها وقت معين" أي وإنما اشترط التعيين والتبييت فيها لأن تلك الصيامات ليس لها وقت معين لأن الواجب ثابت في الذمة وكل زمان صالح لإدائه وللنفل فلم يقع عما في ذمته إلا بالتعيين وليس وقتها معيارا لها فاشترط فيه التبييت

 

اللباب في شرح الكتاب (1/ 163)

من غير تقييد بزمان، وذلك (كقضاء رمضان) وما أفسده من نفل (والنذر المطلق و) صوم الكفارات، فلا يجوز) صوم ذلك (إلا بنية) معينة (من الليل) ، لعدم تعين الوقت، والشرط؛ أن يعلم بقلبه أي صوم يصومه 

 

درر الحكام شرح غرر الأحكام (2/ 440)

قَضَاءُ رَمَضَانَ وَالنَّذْرُ الْمُطْلَقُ وَالْكَفَّارَةُ ( التَّبْيِيتُ ) مِنْ الْبَيْتُوتَةِ وَالْمُرَادُ النِّيَّةُ مِنْ اللَّيْلِ ( وَالتَّعْيِينُ ) إذْ لَيْسَ لَهَا وَقْتٌ مُعَيَّنٌ فَلَا بُدَّ مِنْ التَّعْيِينِ فِي الِابْتِدَاءِ .
