Title: Hadith Authenticity

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakaatuhu.

Can you please confirm if the below hadith is authentic.

Hazrat Safwaan bin Sulaim radiallaho ta’ala anhu narrates that Rasool Allah sallalaho alaihe wasallam was asked,

“Can a believer be a coward? He said, “Yes, he can be coward. Then it was asked whether a believer could be a miser? He replied, “Yes, he can be a miser”, it was then asked whether a believer could be a liar? He replied, “No, a believer cannot be a liar.” (Imam Malik, Mishkaat)

Jazakkallahu khairun

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

The hadith in reference is as follows:

It is narrated from Safwan ibn Sulaym that he said, “Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) was asked, ‘Can a believer be a coward?’ He said, ‘Yes.’ He was asked, ‘Can a believer be a miser?’ He said, ‘Yes.’ He was asked, ‘Can a believer be a liar?’ He said, ‘No.’” (Muwatta’ Malik, 1832)[1]

The hadith is authentic.
