Title: Can salaatul janazah be performed without giving ghusal to the body, and when burial is not certain?

Question

Can someone please assist with the following query? "A friend of mine named John, took shahadah three days before passing away. He had signed away his body for research, while he was still alive. Can Janazah salah be prayed upon him without ghusal and without the possibility of burial?

Answer

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, The Most Merciful.

As-salaamu `alaykum wa-ramatullahi wa-barakatuh.

In principle, the body has to be given ghusal before performing Janazah salaah. If it is not possible to give ghusal to the body then Janazah salaah can be performed without giving ghusal. The possibility of not being able to bury the body does not prevent one from the Janazah salaah.[1]
