Title: Muazzin in Saudi Arabia

Question

1.Asalaamu alaikum. Please I'm a muazzin in Saudi Arabia but most of the time we pray very late due to late attendance of the people.sometimes with congregation of 2,3,4or 5.And I even pray alone sometimes. Its really hurting me and I'm always sad because it's only through salah that a believer can truely fine rest in the heart. I'm really confused and I need your advice. Is this also a trial from Allah? 

2.I don't also have righeous friends here that can associate with to boost my Iman as I have in my country ghana. I  desperately love to be a muazzin for the rest of my life.But this environment is not helping me and I seriously need your advice on this Sheikh. 

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Almighty Allah has blessed you to be a muezzin. This position is a great bounty of Allah Ta’ala upon you. Consider the following Ahadith


  فَقَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ ‏ "‏ الْمُؤَذِّنُونَ أَطْوَلُ النَّاسِ أَعْنَاقًا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ"

Translation: Hazrat Mu’aawiyah (Radiyallahu Anhu) reports that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “Verily the Muazzins will have the “longest necks” on the Day of Qiyaamah.” (Muslim: 387) [i]

In the above Hadith the literal meaning is not intended. Rather, the meaning of having “long necks” is that they will occupy distinct positions of honour on the day of qiyamah.

 

  عن ابن عباس أن النبي صلى الله عليه و سلم قال من أذن سبع سنين محتسبا كتبت له براءة من النار

Hadhrat ibn Abbaas (Radiyallahu Anhuma) reports that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “The one who calls out the Azaan for seven years with Ikhlaas and the hope of attaining reward receives the guarantee of freedom from the fire of Jahannum. (Tirmidhi :206)[ii]

 

We take note of your concern of the attendance in the masjid. The feeling of concern is also tawfeeq from Allah. You should take the courage and go out meet people and encourage them with love and diplomacy to perform salaah. Speak to the musallis of your masjid and request them to assist you in that. Discuss the issue with the Imam and local Ulamaa to create consciousness of Salah in your area. Focus your effect and be positive. Adopt means and ask Allah to put barakah in your effort. Allah Ta’ala told Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam

انك لا تهدي من احببت ولكن الله يهدي من يشاء وهو أعلم بالمهتدين

Indeed, [O Muhammad], you do not guide whom you like, but Allah guides whom He wills. And He is most knowing of the [rightly] guided. (Surah Qasas: 56)

The Ambiyaa Alaihissalaam were also faced with concerns of bringing people on the path of righteousness. They persevered and continued their mission. You too persevere and remain firm and determined in your mission. Never give up hope.

Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) says:

 

و الذين جاهدوا فينا لنهدينهم سبلنا

 “And those who strive to attain our pleasure; we shall definitely guide them to our paths” (29: 69) 


May Allah Ta’ala guide you and keep you steadfast on Deen. Ameen.

 حدثنا محمد بن عبدالله بن نمير حدثنا عبدة عن طلحة بن يحيى عن عمه قال كنت عند معاوية بن أبي سفيان فجاءه المؤذن يدعوه إلى الصلاة فقال معاوية سمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه و سلم يقول المؤذنون أطول الناس أعناقا يوم القيامة

 [ ش ( أطول الناس أعناقا ) جمع عنق واختلف السلف والخلف في معناه فقيل معناه أكثر الناس تشوفا إلى رحمة الله تعالى لأن المتشوف يطيل عنقه إلى ما يتطلع إليه فمعناه كثرة ما يرونه من الثواب وقال النضر بن شميل إذا ألجم الناس العرق يوم القيامة طالت أعناقهم لئلا ينالهم ذلك الكرب والعرق ]

حدثنا محمد بن حميد الرازي حدثنا أبو تميله حدثنا أبو حمزة عن جابر عن مجاهد عن ابن عباس Y أن النبي صلى الله عليه و سلم قال من أذن سبع سنين محتسبا كتبت له براءة من النار قال [ أبو عيسى ] وفي الباب عن [ عبد الله ] بن مسعود و ثوبان و معاوية و أنس و أبي هريرة و أبي سعيد [ قال أبو عيسى ] حديث ابن عباس حديث غريب و أبو تميلة اسمه يحيى بن واضح و أبو حمزة السكري اسمه محمد بن ميمون و جابر بن يزيد الجعفي ضعفوة تركه يحيى بن سعيد و عبد الرحمن بن مهدي قال [ أبو عيسى ] سمعت الجارود يقول سمعت وكيعا يقول لولا جابر [ الجعفي ] لكان أهل الكوفة بغير حديث ولولا حماد لكان أهل الكوفة بغير فقه K ضعيف
