Title: Goodwill to outgoing tenant

Question

Is it permissible for an outgoing tenant to charge the new tenant an amount as goodwill which they call پگڑی for taking over the premises? The money is not paid to the Landlord but paid to old tenant for occupying the premise.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

It is not permissible for the outgoing tenant to charge the new tenant any amount as Goodwill. [1]
