Title: Taking over family business

Assalamualaikom I have only been Muslim for 2 years now but have become quite religious lately. This is a business question and the answer will literally determine how my parents, grandparents cousins, and descendants live in this life and in the here after, so please grant me a lot of vivid explanation so that I may be completely convinced! Allah izzik el khair My parents own a mom and pop screen printing business. Basically what they do is they print pictures, and designs on shirts for the customers. These designs often include haram materials such as liquor logos, and animate objects. That in and of itself seems like haram Dawah and I would hate to be an image maker because I am very afraid of Adhab. Not only that, but my parents decided that interest is the best way to build their business, and they are now in debt though it is a manageable debt considering the wealth that they receive every year. I am afraid that they are shunning me, and continue to beg me to take over their business and I don't think that anybody can convince me to take care of a haram business. The only reason I am asking this is because if I don't jump into the business my parents may end up losing everything either that or my mother who is getting older will have to work so hard that she will probably suffer from cardiac arrest and that is not an exaggeration. So my question is which is a bigger sin losing my relationship with my entire extended family and throwing them all into harms way or taking care of their haram business. Also, my parents buy me Sabina meat with money made from this business which I seem to be haram is it still considered halal for me to eat? As well as my Mercedes? What about living in their home? I don't seek dings over akhirah, but I do sympathize with my mother who prays, and may end up losing her iman and follow the devil if I from her angle become a radical. Please make it easy for us brother or sister may Allah grant you success in all fields and grand you the sustenance that you so rightly deserve. May Allah grant you tremendous success with your family life sorry about the long post but I like seriously need help right now.

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, The Most Merciful.

As-salaamu `alaykum wa-ramatullahi wa-barakatuh.

Brother in Islaam,

It is pleasing to note that Allah blessed you and your family with Imaan.

We take note of the circumstances you are in. You should take over the family business and change it gradually.

Interest is haram. Printing liquor logos is also haram. However, if you do not take over the business, there is a strong possibility of your family engaging in compound interest and possibly losing everything. This may lead to the loss of their Imaan due to your attitude. Your focus should be to save their Imaan. Take over the business. Regard the wrong as wrong and look for avenues to change that. In-sha-allah, that attitude will lead you to serve your parents and family and protect their Imaan.

And Allah Ta`ala Knows Best.

Hussein Muhammad.
