Title: Listening to sped up Quran Audio

Question

Salam, mufti.

1) I am currently doing Hifdh and I was wondering wether I can listen to audio quran recitation and recite along it, example; recite along simultaniously with the Qari that I am listening to with my headphones inorder to improve my tajweed and pick out my mistakes is this permissable?

2) If the above question is permissable, then am I allowed to speed up the Qaris recitation ie. make the audio speed x1.5 of the original speed, so that I can revise as much of quran as possible in a short time period.

Jazakallah.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

1) It is permissible to recite Quran simultaneously with an audio recitation of the Quran.[1]

One shall be rewarded for any efforts made to improve one’s Qira’ah (recitation).[2]

2) The Quran is the sacred text from Allah which deserves the utmost respect. Listening to a sped up audio of the Quran will be permissible on condition that the pronunciation is not altered nor is it done as a means of mockery.[3]
