Role playing Sahabah in Maktab for educational purposes


With the coming of Rabiul Awal many Maktabs are having the students doing role playso of parts for the seerah. My question is that is it permissible to act out the seerah where the students will be playing the role of the sahabas?


In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

The Qur’aan, Ahaadith and history are replete with the seerah of Rasulullaah (Sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam). We ought to impart the seerah of Rasulullaah (Sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam) and display the seerah in our daily lives. The most effective way of inculcating love for Rasulullaah (Sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam) and the Sahaabah (Radhiyallaahu ‘anhum) in maktabs is for the teachers to personally relate incidents of the seerah in an effective way. This method has been proven effective.

It is not appropriate to make the students play out the Sahaabah (Radhiyallaahu ‘anhum). There is a great possibility that one may err in many ways in representing the appearances of a Sahaabi, his Imaan and conduct[i].

Role playing may have an impact on the minds of children. It is possible that a role played by a child of Sahaabi may get entrenched in the minds of children and they may think of a Sahaabi according to the play. A role played by a child will fall short in many ways and create a relatively low status of the Sahaabah in the mind of the children which is detrimental to the Imaan of the children. Words describing the Sahaabah can better explain the various aspects of the lives of the Sahaabah.

4 - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنِي زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ صَبِيحٍ زَحْمَوَيْهِ، وَحَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ خَالِدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَا: نا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي عُبَيْدَةُ بْنُ أَبِي رَائِطَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُغَفَّلٍ الْمُزَنِيِّ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «اللَّهَ اللَّهَ فِي أَصْحَابِي، لَا تَتَّخِذُوا أَصْحَابِي غَرَضًا، مَنْ أَحَبَّهُمْ فَبِحُبِّي أَحَبَّهُمْ، وَمَنْ أَبْغَضَهُمْ فَبِبُغْضِي أَبْغَضَهُمْ، وَمَنْ آذَاهُمْ فَقَدْ آذَانِي، وَمَنْ آذَانِي فَقَدْ آذَى اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ، فَيُوشِكُ أَنْ يَأْخُذَهُ» .


صحيح البخاري (5/ 8) 

3673 - حدثنا آدم بن أبي إياس، حدثنا شعبة، عن الأعمش، قال: سمعت ذكوان، يحدث عن أبي سعيد الخدري رضي الله عنه، قال: قال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم: «لا تسبوا أصحابي، فلو أن أحدكم أنفق مثل أحد، ذهبا ما بلغ مد أحدهم، ولا نصيفه» تابعه جرير، وعبد الله بن داود، وأبو معاوية، ومحاضر، عن الأعمش

رجل يجلس على مكان مرتفع ويسألون منه مسائل بطريق الاستهزاء ثم يضربونه بالوسائد وهم يضحكون يكفرون جميعا وكذا لو لم يجلس على المكان المرتفع

رجل جلس على مكان مرتفع أو أجلس فيسألون منه مسائل استهزاء أو يضربونه بما شاءوا وهم يضحكون كفروا والاستهزاء بالعلم أو العلماء كفر
