Title: Is this wazifa authentic?

Question

Asslam u Aleikum Mufti Sahab

My question is regarding the benefits of Surah Ar-Rahman. I read somewhere that if you have a hajat you should read this surah 11 times daily is this true and should we begin and end it with durood shareef? and how many times should you read daily on someone who is sick? I also wanted to know that is it permissible to do wazifa? does reading surah Ar-Rahman 11 times count as doing a wazifa? Please also specify what is the difference between doing a simple dua everyday and doing a wazifa? I have heard that if you have some hajat you should pray namaz e hajat i also want to know a dua for hajat that i could read. Please do reply

Jazak Allah Khair

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Almighty Allah says,

There is indeed a role model for you in the Messenger of Allah

It was the noble habit of Rasulullah صلي الله عليه وسلم to resort to salaah at the time of need. It is stated in the hadith,

When anything distressed the Prophet (صلي الله عليه وسلم), he performed salaah.(Abu Dawood)1

The procedure of salatul haajah is as follows,

  • Perform wudhu correctly,
  • Perform two rakats nafl salah. Thereafter,
  • Praise Allah Ta’āla,
  • Recite Durud Sharif,
  • Recite the following dua:

Translation: There is no god but Allah the Clement and Wise. There is no god but Allah the High and Mighty. Glory be to Allah, Lord of the Tremendous Throne.  All praise is to Allah, Lord of the worlds.  I ask you (O Allah) everything that leads to your mercy, and your tremendous forgiveness, enrichment in all good, and freedom from all sin.  Do not leave a sin of mine (O Allah), except that you forgive it, nor any concern except that you create for it an opening, nor any need in which there is your good pleasure except that you fulfill it, O Most Merciful(Tirmidhi)!2

The recitation of Surah Rahman at the time of need is possibly tried and tested. One may follow a tried and tested procedure. However, there is nothing equivalent to the sunnah of Rasulullah

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
