Title

Which part of a dog is impure?

Question

Assalamuayaykum wa rahmatullah, I was recently given a car and the previous owner had a pet dog, I can see the dog hair in the car and imagine that saliva must have been in contact the interior. Please advise what would be the acceptable cleaning method and do the seats need to be covered although nothing is visable and how to make the seat belt material tohir? Jazak Allahu Khairun

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

The hair of a dog is not impure. Rather, it is the saliva that is impure.[i] If there are no visible traces of the dog’s saliva in the car, it will be considered Tahir (pure).[ii] However, as a precaution, you may take the car to a valet/car wash for a full interior clean.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best.
