Title

Can a child call out the adhaan and iqamah?

Question

Is it permissible for a child between 4-5 years old to pronounce the iqamah for the fard salat and would the prayer be valid if offered in this manner.What is the ruling in the light of hadith and sunnah.how old should one be to call the adhan and the iqamah for the fardh prayer.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

The Adhan of a minor child who has not reached the age of understanding is Makrooh (disliked) and should be repeated. However, the Adhan of an understanding child is valid, however it is preferable that an adult (baligh) male calls out the Adhan. [1]

If a minor called out the Iqamah and thereafter Salaah was performed, the Salaah will be valid. Salaah will not have to be repeated.

بدائع الصنائع في ترتيب الشرائع (1/ 150) [1]

وَرُوِيَ عَنْ أَبِي حَنِيفَةَ أَنَّهُ يُسْتَحَبُّ الْإِعَادَةُ وَكَذَا أَذَانُ الصَّبِيِّ الْعَاقِلِ، وَإِنْ كَانَ جَائِزًا حَتَّى لَا يُعَادَ ذَكَرَهُ فِي ظَاهِرِ الرِّوَايَةِ لِحُصُولِ الْمَقْصُودِ وَهُوَ: الْإِعْلَامُ، لَكِنَّ أَذَانَ الْبَالِغِ أَفْضَلُ؛ لِأَنَّهُ فِي مُرَاعَاةِ الْحُرْمَةِ أَبْلَغُ وَرَوَى أَبُو يُوسُفَ عَنْ أَبِي حَنِيفَةَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: أَكْرَهُ أَنْ يُؤَذِّنَ مَنْ لَمْ يَحْتَلِمْ؛ لِأَنَّ النَّاسَ لَا يَعْتَدُّونَ بِأَذَانِهِ، وَأَمَّا أَذَانُ الصَّبِيِّ الَّذِي لَا يَعْقِلُ فَلَا يُجْزِئُ وَيُعَادُ؛ لِأَنَّ مَا يَصْدُرُ لَا عَنْ عَقْلٍ لَا يُعْتَدُّ بِهِ كَصَوْتِ الطُّيُورِ

(ويكره أذان الصبي وإن كان عاقلا) في رواية وفي ظاهر الرواية لا يكره أذانه إذا كان عاقلا

 

المحيط البرهاني في الفقه النعماني (1/ 345)

 وإن آذان الصبي (الذي) لا يعقل أو مجنون يُعاد ذلك؛ لأن ما هو المقصود وهو الإعلام لا يحصل بأذانهما؛ لأن الناس لا يعتبرون كلام غير العاقل، فهو وصوت الطير سواء، ويكره أذان السكران، ويستحب إعادته

 

الفتاوى الهندية (2/ 281)

أَذَانُ الصَّبِيِّ الْعَاقِلِ صَحِيحٌ مِنْ غَيْرِ كَرَاهَةٍ فِي ظَاهِرِ الرِّوَايَةِ وَلَكِنْ أَذَانُ الْبَالِغِ أَفْضَلُ وَأَذَانُ الصَّبِيِّ الَّذِي لَا يَعْقِلُ لَا يَجُوزُ وَيُعَادُ وَكَذَا الْمَجْنُونُ

هَكَذَا فِي النِّهَايَةِ

بالکل بے سمجھ نابالغ بچہ کی اذان صحیح نہیں اس کا اعادہ ضروری ہے اور سمجھدار بچہ کی اذان مکروہ تنزیہی ہے
