Title: Meaning of the name Yusrah

Question

Assalamwalikum....I would like to ask about the name YUSRA..my first girls name is zainab.jazakallah

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Islam emphasizes that Muslims should have good names and give good names to their children.

It is the infant's vested right to be honoured with a good name. When choosing a name for the child, it should be done with the intention that the child will be blessed with the barakah of that name.

The name of a person has an effect on the individual’s personality and his/her characteristics. Therefore, we should try to adopt the names of the Ambiyaa (Alaihis-Salaam) and the companions (Sahabaah/Sahabiyyaah) of Nabi (). [1]

Consider the following Ahaadeeth:

إِنَّكُمْ تُدْعَوْنَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ بِأَسْمَائِكُمْ وَأَسْمَاءِ آبَائِكُمْ فَأَحْسِنُوا أَسْمَاءَكُمْ

Translation: On the Day of Resurrection, you will be called by your names and by your father's names, so give yourselves good names.

(Sunan-Abu Dawood, Kitaabul Adab)

Yusrah is derived from the Arabic word يسر, which means easy. Yusrah is a suitable name. [2]
