Consuming energy drinks


Assalamu alaikum

Can you please calrify for me the ruling on consuming energy drinks such as red bull etc....these energy drinks contain taurine which anongst people have a nixed veiw in regards to it...it would be much appreciated if you could clarify this please.

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

According to our research, Red Bull does not contain any haraam ingredients. The taurine in Red Bull is produced synthetically by pharmaceutical companies which guarantee the highest quality standards. Taurine is not derived from animals. [i]

It is permissible to drink Red Bull and similar drinks. However, if there are health hazards in drinking such energy drinks, then one should exercise caution. [ii]
