Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Tobacco is not the only ingredient in cigarettes. There are many other ingredients found in cigarettes which are extremely hazardous to one’s health[1]:

  • Cyanide
  • Benzene
  • Formaldehyde
  • Methanol (wood alcohol)
  • Acetylene (the fuel used in welding torches)
  • Ammonia

As such, cigarette smoking is Makrūh (reprehensible).[2]

The ingredients of paan and their quantity are not standard. If paan is made in such a way that it is hazardous to one’s health, it will also be Makrūh (reprehensible).

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
