Title: Is Zakat paid at cost price of the stock or at selling price?

Question

Most businessmen I know pay Zakat on stock in trade at cost price, not selling price.

Please confirm which is the correct value to be used?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

When calculating Zakat, the market related value of the stock in trade will be considered on the day the Zakat is due.
