Title: Explanation of a Hadith

Question

Hadith:99 out of 100 will be in the fire. What is the tafsir of this Hadith. Jazak Allah Khairan

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

The Hadith in reference is as follows:

Abu Hurairah Radhiyallahu Anhu narrates that Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam said: The first one to be called on the Day of Qiyaamah will be Adam Alaihissalam.  His progeny will be manifested before him.  They will be told, “This is your father Adam.” Adam Alaihissalam will say, “I am present for your service (O Allah)”.  Allah Ta’ala will say, “Separate the group destined for the fire from your progeny.”  Adam Alaihissalam will reply, “O Allah, how many should I separate?”  Allah will say, “Take out from every hundred niney-nine.” (Sahih al-Bukhari)

In another narration with similar wordings, the mention of Yajooj and Majooj also appears. [1] Hence, the number of inhabitants of the fire is inclusive of the disbelievers as well as the nation of Yajooj and Majooj who will be extremely large in number. [2]
