Title

When you have a cousin who has been breast fed by your mother does that make him your Mahram?

Question

I just wanted to ask what if it is permissable to eat food that has the ingredioents : white wine vinegar.. spirit vinegar... red wine vinegar? i did some reseacrch and found that they are not intoxicating once the alcohol has been transfigured into vinegar.. but i also read somewhere that the Prophet PBUH did not allow this? is the correct? could you please give evidence.

Also on the subject of mahrems. When you have a cousin who has been breast fed by your mother does that make him your mahrem?

Is all forms of music prohibited? what if the content of the words is not vulgar but there are still musical instruments?? can u please give evidence.

I was told that a muslim woman should not take her husbands surname as it makes them appear 2 be from the same lineage.. is this correct? Ive heard some say it is haram for her to do so, but have also read that it is ok.

Thank you.

Assalaamu `alaykum waRahmatullahi Wabarakatuh

1) It is permissible to consume vinegar made from wine as long as the effects of alcohol, e.g. intoxication, are not present. This permissibility is evident in the books of Fiqh.

(Fathul Qadeer, Vol. 9, P. 39, Rashidiyya)

(Al-Bahr al-Raaiq, Vol. 8, P. 219, Rashidiyya)

(Fatawa Alamgiree, Vol. 5, P. 410, Rashidiyya)
(Fatawa Mahmudiyya, Vol. 18, P. 179, Faruqiyya)

2) If a cousin was suckled by one's mother before the age of 2, this will make him a radhaa'i brother (foster-brother) through milk relations. He will be considered a mehram (one whom you cannot marry).

(Sunan Ibn Majah, P. 139, Qadimi)

(Raddul Muhtar, Vol. 3, P. 213, HM Saeed)

(Al-Bahr al-Raaiq, Vol. 3, P. 388, Rashidiyya)

3) Music-A detailed article on music will be put up on the site shortly InshaAllah.

4) It is not necessary for a Muslim woman to take the surname of her husband. However, she may do so if she desires. In today's society, it has become a norm for a woman to take the surname of her husband. This may be for legal reasons in one's country or for identification purposes. Regardless of the reason, a possible solution can be to keep the father's surname as her middle name and the husband's surname as her surname.

And Allah knows best
